The other day I had a customer come to me with a computer that was running slow. So I did a quick virus scan and found no issues, and to my surprise, the computer had a new solid state hard(SSD) drive, so there was no reason that the computer should have been slow. After a few minutes I noticed that the computer, while having a SSD, it was only 128 gigs and was almost 95% full. Light bulb moment!!
The system was running slow because it had not storage to move files around. Think of it this way. Before you sit down to your thanksgiving meal, you may play catch, football or something else, and you have energy. After you stuff yourself with turkey, dressing and all of the fixings, you are slow, you may even have to loosen the belt and do your best Al Bundy, while sitting on the couch, watching another terrible Lions loss. Point is you don't move well because you are full.
Same thing happens with your computer, when the drive is full, it can't shift files around, and thus, runs slow. Just finished installing a 1 TB SSD on the computer and the clients computer will be moving just like Barry Sanders in the open field.

We all have that comfortable pair of jeans, maybe a sweatshirt from college with all the holes; and stories to go with it, that we love and will never throw out. Since July, of 2009 we have all come to rely on our comfortable operating system; Windows 7. But, like that old pair of jeans, it has come time to move on to a new system. Admittedly, change can be scary, especially when it is thrust upon, us like Microsoft is currently doing.
Yes, our significant other has decided to throw out that favorite piece of clothing and hang in the closet a shiny new garment. We have tried it on over the last few 4 years, but it just doesn't feel the same, doesn't move the same. But there it is. Hanging there in the closet just begging us to break it in and get comfortable with it.
Starting January 14, 2020 Microsoft will retire our old friend Windows 7, and STRONGLY ENCOURAGE us to upgrade to Windows 10. We can fight this, but we will only hurt ourselves.
On that fateful day, Microsoft will no longer offer security patches, updates or anything else for that matter rendering the old OS a playground for hackers easier access to all the information on our computers. Personal Users may have tax information that may be vulnerable, personal data, family photos that can be held for ransom. Business customers can have similar issues, only with far more reaching effects.
So, I encourage all to contact get in contact with your local IT professional to make sure that your computer is protected and up to date. Please see the link included from Microsoft for more information.
